Es importante aclarar que estamos hablando de costos en el sentido de los recursos utilizados en la producción de bienes y servicios, no de los costos asociados con el uso de recursos que existen naturalmente, como el agua de un río o la madera de un bosque.
Factores Productivos y su relación con el Costo
Los factores productivos son bienes o servicios utilizados para desarrollar las acciones que componen un proceso de producción. “Ninguna acción de un proceso de producción puede desarrollarse sin que exista consumo de factores.”
Estos factores pueden ser tanto externos (bienes adquiridos en el mercado de factores respectivo) como internos (bienes y servicios autogenerados en otras acciones del proceso de producción).
Todo proceso productivo es un sistema de acciones dinámicamente interrelacionadas orientado a la transformación de ciertos elementos “entrados”, denominados factores (o medios productivos), en ciertos elementos “salidos”, denominados productos (o resultados productivos).
El costo y su relación con los Resultados Productivos
Los resultados productivos pueden ser tanto finales (bienes o servicios susceptibles de ser ofertados en los mercados donde la organización interactúa) como intermedios (bienes o servicios internos obtenidos en una o varias acciones, utilizables como “factores” en otra u otras acciones que componen el mismo proceso de producción).
Desde esta perspectiva, toda organización puede ser concebida como un proceso de producción “integral”, orientado a objetivos “finales” y conformado por procesos de producción “particulares”, cada uno de los cuales generadores de resultados productivos “intermedios” que contribuyen, colectivamente, a la obtención de aquellos objetivos “finales”.
Determinantes del Costo
Existen dos componentes constituyentes del costo de cada factor, individualmente considerados. Un componente físico, que es la cantidad de factor reputada como de consumo necesario para obtener el objetivo productivo, y un componente monetario, que es el valor asignado a cada unidad de factor disponible para ser usado en el proceso.
La relación de ambos componentes define el costo de cada factor para lograr un objetivo. El concepto de valor es un elemento intrínseco, esencial e inseparable del concepto de costo. Esto implica que el costo es más que solo información sobre las relaciones físicas entre medios y fines productivos. Es información expresada en términos de valor económico.
Conclusión
En resumen, el costo es una relación esencial entre los resultados y los factores productivos. Comprender esta relación es fundamental para la gestión eficiente de cualquier proceso de producción, ya que permite a las organizaciones optimizar el uso de sus recursos y maximizar sus resultados.
